Sewio uses UWB technology for positioning. UWB devices and anchors use 6.5 GHz for communication, which is not disturbed by WiFi, Bluetooth or mobile frequencies, and therefore works more reliably. Competing technologies generally use a signal strength indicator (RSSI) for positioning, which is highly influenced by the environment and does not provide high accuracy. The advantage of Sewio, besides the use of different frequency, is that instead of signal strength, a TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) solution is used to detect the position. The devices are synchronized with each other, which allows the signal propagation time to be measured in time and the position to be calculated. Depending on the application, the same-room location can be determined even with an accuracy of a few centimeters, although in most cases an accuracy of a few decimeters is enough to find goods in a warehouse, for example.
Sewio offers a complete solution. The equipment comes with analytic tools (e.g. spaghetti map, heatmap, distances traveled, geofencing, etc.) and active support during the implementation and operation of the solution. Additional integrations, automation and new IT solutions can be built on top of these technologies.
Advantages over alternative technologies (Bluetooth, RFID, WiFi):
- More precise positioning (in decimeters)
- Noise resistance (e.g. metal objects do not distract the positioning accuracy remarkably)
- The energy consumption of the devices is low, and therefore these are easier to use.
- Easy installation
Alternative technologies also have their advantages:
- Bluetooth – you can also use a smart device for positioning
- RFID – extremely affordable tags
- WiFi – infrastructure is largely available
